Film 357/365, Day 364/365 – The Grinch

Funny and ideal for the children at Christmas.  It is also worth noting that the Grinch was a fine example of an Environmentalist, he was a keen recycler and advocate of reducing the amount of waste at Christmas.  Jim Carrey is the only person they could have got to be the Grinch and it's amazing how much Taylor Momsen has changed since 2000!

Synopsis:  The Whos are busy preparing for Christmas when some children encounter the Grinch.  The Grinch hates Christmas and when one little girl attempts to include him things quickly back fire and he becomes more determined to ruin Christmas than ever before.

Film 115/365, Day 124/365 – Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

Non-stop hilarious nonsense.  Either you love him or you hate him, he is Jim Carrey and I love him.  His bizarre expressions and rubber movements make him a one of a kind and I for one will never tire of his films.  The best moment is without a doubt the realisation.  If you’ve seen it you know what I am talking about.  “You’re gun is digging into my hip!!!”

Synopsis:  The mascot of the Miami Dolphins, Snowball the Dolphin, is kidnapped shortly before the Dolphins are due to play in the Superbowl.  Desperate they turn to Ace Ventura: Pet Detective to recover the missing Dolphin.  Star Quarterback Dan Marino has also gone missing.  Can Ace find them in time or is he out of his depth?

Film 105/365, Day 110/365 – The Mask

Zany, bonkers and completely insane.  It’s Jim Carry at his comic best in a role that is the absolutely perfect foil for his style.  Again it’s one of those where if you like Jim Carrey, you will love The Mask.  However if you don’t then you won’t like it, but then I think there must be something wrong with you!

Synopsis:  Repressed bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss finds an old wooden mask that when he puts it on releases all of his inhibitions and transforms him into the cartoonesque Mask.  Under the influence of the Mask he robs a bank and makes an enemy of the local gang boss.  Even with the Mask’s power will Stanley be able to get out of the mess he’s now in?

Film 51/365, Day 58/365 – Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

Pet Detective, Ace Ventura has retreated to a Himalayan monestry following a disastrous Cliffhanger style incident with a racoon. He is eventually tracked down and convinced to return to work. His assignment is to go Africa and help recover a sacred white bat, to stop the local tribes from going to war.

Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls is an instant classic that can be watched again and again and over and over. Jim Carrey may be an aquired taste, personally I think he is a comedy genious. This is as good if not better than the first Ace Ventura outing. If you fancy some purile mindless entertainment then this is for you. If not, stop being a grump, laughter keeps you young. Just watch it, what’s the worst that could happen.

Film 17/365, Day 17/365 – Dumb and Dumber

Roommates Harry Christmas and Lloyd Dunn dream of one day owning their own pet store, We Got Worms, and attempt to keep a number of jobs to save up enough money. Unfortunately Harry and Lloyd are not doing too well. During Harry’s latest job as a limousine driver he meets Mary Swanson, a client he drives to the airport. Harry is instantly besotted and when Mary leaves a case at the airport he seeks to return the case to Mary and gain her favour.

In my mind there is no funnier film ever made than Dumb and Dumber. That’s quite the statement, but I stand by it. This film get’s funnier and funnier every time you watch it. I believe that Dumb and Dumber will always be funny, such is the quality of the jokes and impeccable delivery by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. Even when you think you think it can’t get any funnier, something even funnier awaits around the corner. Oh and the ending is the most fitting ending to a comedy ever.
