Film 359/365, Day 364/365 – National Treasure

Good adventure with plenty of action and suspense.  In my mind this is actually better than the Da Vinci Code purely because it assumes that we can think and allows us to discover the answers with the characters and not just tell us what they are.  Good fun.

Synopsis:  The latest in a long line of treasure hunters attempts to find a treasure so great that the Knights Templar hid it away from the world.  He is not the only one trying to find it so he's going to have to hurry.

Film 329/365, Day 346/365 – GoldenEye

It will never be as good as the Nintendo 64 game!  As far as Bond films go it’s pretty good but it is still in the old style full of clichés and A-Team style action.  Bond actually drives a tank over two police cars and after he drives off the people climb out of the wrecks.  It is also incredibly cheesy which is what I grew up knowing Bond as, but now that I’ve seen what it can be in the new films then this feels much more like an action Carry On film.

Synopsis:  The Goldeneye is a Russian space weapon that it has fallen under control of a secret terrorist organisation.  James Bond must work together with the only survivor of a Russian research facility to try and track down the terrorists and stop them from causing chaos.

Film 243/365, Day 257/365 – Equilibrium

Excellent fight sequences and some fairly good science fiction.  There aren’t that many new concepts in Equilibrium but it puts them together quite well.  The best things however are the fights, whether with guns or swords and especially when using the guns in hand to hand combat!  Great fun.

Synopsis:  Emotions have been outlawed.  Anything that may cause emotion has been made illegal and is destroyed.  Drugs are administered to the populace to inhibit emotions.  All of these rules are ruthlessly enforced by the Clerics.  But what would happen if one of the Clerics discovers emotions?

Film 43/365, Day 46/365 – The Island

Lincoln Six Echo lives in a seemingly perfect facility long after an unexplained event has made the earth uninhabitable. Randomly members of the facility are selected to move to the island, the last habitable place outside of the facility. Every aspect of their lives are monitored and analyzed by Dr Merrick and his team. Lincoln strangely finds himself uneasy with the whole situation, his concerns are reinforced when he discovers a moth that has flown in from the outside. Along with his friend, Jordan Two Delta, they escape and discover that nothing is quite as they expected.

The Island is a futuristic thriller directed by Michael Bay, the man behind Armageddon and Transformers, so you can expect plenty of over the top action sequences. The Island is an enjoyable film with some exhilarating action sequences, some less believable than others. It seems to be influenced by a number of other science fiction films, from Logan’s Run to THX 1138, but then that’s nothing new either. Well worth watching if you enjoy your science fiction.
