The River S01E01 – Magus

The River follows the family of a wildlife expert and TV show host, very much in the style of Steve Irwin, after he goes missing whilst filming on the Amazon river.  The show is filmed entirely as a documentary with a camera crew and surveillance cameras.  It is reminiscent of the Blair Witch Project in the style that it was filmed, but unlike the Blair Witch Project it isn't crap.  The River raises more than enough questions to keep you interested and shows you enough to make you want to see more without revealing everything straight away.  I really enjoyed it, which can only mean one thing... you can pretty much forget about there being a season 2, we can all hope but looking at the news on Google it looks like it's already been cancelled, so I've got the rest of the season to enjoy and no doubt the frustration at the end of the season at yet another unresolved climax!

Film 274/365, Day 304/365 – King Kong

Beautiful, captivating and action packed.  This is without a doubt a fantastically made film, everything about it oozes charisma.  My only criticism is that it is a little too long to make it a film you can watch again and again, best saved as a treat every once a while.  The effects are magical and the fight between Kong and the T-Rex is awesome!

Synopsis:  Desperate to make the greatest film the world has ever seen an ambitious director takes his crew to Skull Island where they encounter far more than they had imagined.  Before long they are fighting for their lives until a more lucrative opportunity presents itself.

Film 182/365, Day 194/365 – Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Yet more fantastic zombie antics.  Resident Evil: Apocalypse is similar to the first film in many ways except you have more zombies, more genetic experiments and the Nemesis!  Milla Jovovich is excellent once more taking on the role of Alice, whilst Sienna Guillory and Oded Fehr were also brilliant.  If you like zombies then you can’t really go wrong here!

Synopsis:  Alice wakes up (I know, again) in a hospital in Raccoon City, but there is nobody there and when she finally makes it outside she discovers that the virus outbreak from the first film made it out and has decimated the city.  She joins forces with several survivors as they try to escape from the city before the Umbrella Corporation attempts to clean up the mess they’ve made!
