Film 255/365, Day 276/365 – Shallow Hal

The first half of the film is very funny, the part where Hal sees only inner beauty, but once his perception is reversed it becomes kind of boring pretty quickly.  It’s not a bad film and does have some funny moments but not nearly enough for it to compete with the likes of Dumb and Dumber!

Synopsis:  Hal is incredibly shallow.  He constantly chases the most beautiful model-like women regardless of any obvious character flaws.  That is until a chance meeting with a hypnotherapist who changes Hal’s perception so that he can only see inner beauty.

Film 189/365, Day 202/365 – Iron Man

Alchemists have been trying to turn iron into gold for centuries.  Who would have thought that Jon Favreau would be the one to do it!  I love Iron Man, it has to be one of the best comic book adaptations ever.  Loads of action and excellent special effects and hero that has more demons than most villains.  Excellent.

Synopsis:  Tony Stark is the head of Stark Industries, one of the premier weapons manufacturers in the world.  Whilst demonstrating the capabilities of their latest weapon Tony is captured by terrorists and forced to make weapons for them.  Instead he turns himself into the greatest weapon he has ever made.

Film 167/365, Day 172/365 – Se7en

Dark, gritty, intense.  These are just some of the words you could use to describe Se7en.  It is also a fantastic film with some great acting and a story that will keep you gripped right up until the end, and probably another couple of hours after that.  Still one of the best crime thrillers ever made.  Brilliant!

Synopsis:  Two detectives, one on his last job, one of his first, are trying to piece together a series of bizarre murders which appear to have a biblical reference to the seven deadly sins.  Will they be able to catch the murderer before he completes all seven murders?

Film 5/365, Day 3/365 – Iron Man 2

Tony Stark has just declared that he is the Iron Man and before he has a chance to enjoy it the government is trying to force him to turn over the technology. This is just the start of Tony’s problems. The technology that is keeping him alive is starting to kill him and a son of his father’s former colleague is looking for revenge. Plus Tony still likes a drink or two!

Whilst Iron Man 2 doesn’t quite have the wow factor that the first film had, even with the addition of Scarlett Johansson, it is still a very enjoyable film. It also helps to further set the stage for the Avengers film in which is due to be release in 2012 following on from Thor and Captain America. Iron Man 2 is definitely worth watching whether you are a comic book fan or not.
