Film 189/365, Day 202/365 – Iron Man

Alchemists have been trying to turn iron into gold for centuries.  Who would have thought that Jon Favreau would be the one to do it!  I love Iron Man, it has to be one of the best comic book adaptations ever.  Loads of action and excellent special effects and hero that has more demons than most villains.  Excellent.

Synopsis:  Tony Stark is the head of Stark Industries, one of the premier weapons manufacturers in the world.  Whilst demonstrating the capabilities of their latest weapon Tony is captured by terrorists and forced to make weapons for them.  Instead he turns himself into the greatest weapon he has ever made.

Film 186/365, Day 197/365 – The Men Who Stare at Goats

Funny, sarcastic and incredibly strange.  The Men Who Stare at Goats has an excellent cast who were all ideally suited for their roles, George Clooney and Jeff Bridges really stood out for me.  It is what I hope the military are really investing their money on although I'm sure they aren't.  I also enjoyed all of the in jokes about Jedi warriors with Ewan McGregor.  Good fun.

Synopsis: A small town reporter interviews a man who claims to have psychic powers only to end up half the way around the world in Iraq with a former member of the New World Army, a secret team of Jedi warriors funded by the American government.

Film 159/365, Day 167/365 – TRON: Legacy

Visually stunning, a soundtrack exclusively by Daft Punk and yet it wasn’t as good as I had hoped.  The one main thing that lets TRON: Legacy down is the story line, it just didn’t seem to have any oomph and if I’m being picky the young digital version of Jeff Bridges was a bit rubbish.  Good film but the story let it down.

Synopsis:  One day a mysterious message is sent by Kevin Flynn who has been missing for the past twenty years.  His son, Sam,  follows the message and ends up in being transported into a digital world and finds himself embroiled in a struggle that has last more than a thousand cycles!

Film 35/365, Day 37/365 – Surf’s Up

Cody Maverick is alone in his colony of penguins. He is the only one who surfs, inspired by a visit from Big Z when he was younger. Now he has a chance at competing in the Big Z memorial surf tournament. When Cody goes head to head with the reigning champion, Tank ‘The Shredder’ Evans, he wipes out and needs to be rescued by the lifeguard. With his confidence shaken can a new found mentor help him rediscover his love of surfing?

Surf’s Up is told in the form of a documentary which works excepetionally well. One of the best elements is the excellent supporting cast, Chicken Joe is probably my favourite. Primarily this is a childrens film but there is plenty in there for adults. It’s lots of fun and definitely one to watch.
