Film 219/365, Day 237/365 – Paul

Geek-tastic!  There are so many excellent geek jokes throughout for example when they enter a hillbilly bar and the music from Jabba’s Palace is playing.  It’s funny from start to finish, all of the characters are excellent and the story is very good.  I really enjoyed it, so, whether you are a fan of Pegg and Frost or not you really should see Paul.

Synopsis:  Graeme and Clive have finally gone on the holiday of a lifetime; they’ve been planning it since they were kids.  First they go to Comic Con in San Diego and then a tour of America’s famous UFO hot spots.  However things change when they meet Paul, an alien who has escaped from a secret military compound.

Film 130/365, Day 140/365 – Attack the Block

Another good British comedy horror, with a script that could have been written by N’Dubz!!!  There are plenty of jumpy moments to keep everyone on their toes and some genuinely funny characters thrown in to mix.  At times however you can’t help but enjoy the little thugs getting their just deserves.  The aliens at times do look a little Muppet-like.  Good mindless fun, but not a patch on Shaun of the Dead!

Synopsis:  When a group of young kids who were up to no good are attacked by an alien creature, they kill it and take it back to their block in South London and in doing so they have unwittingly drawn a swarm of larger aliens in on them.  Now they are going to have to tool up and band together with the residents that they terrorize if they are going to survive.

Film 57/365, Day 61/365 – Hot Fuzz

Police Officer Nicholas Angel is the best officer in the whole of the London Metropolitan Police Service. The only problem is that he’s too good and to stop him from showing up the rest of the service he is relocated to Sandford, Gloustershire. Sandford is a sleeper rural village with almost zero crime... or is that what they want you to think?

Hot Fuzz is another fantastic film from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg and has all you would expect from them. Visually Hot Fuzz is exceptional, the editing alone would be an example for any would be film makers out there. The story is excellent, packed full of dry comedy that made Sean of the Dead such a success. Hot Fuzz should not be missed.

Film 38/365, Day 39/365 – Shaun of the Dead

Shaun staggers through life, barely. He still lives with his best friend, Ed, whom he known since he was a child. Every night they like to go to their local pub, the Winchester. One day Shaun’s girlfriend Susan breaks up with him and after a particuly hard night on the beer Shaun wakes from his drink induced coma to find that the world is a little different. In order to win Susan back Shaun must keep them all safe from the rapidly increasing Zombie horde that has engulfed west London.

I love Shaun of the Dead, but then I’m quite possibly its target audience. If you’re not too sure then I would recommend you watch a couple of episodes of Spaced. Shaun of the Dead is excellently put together, with a brilliant use of music that enhances every scene. It even opens to the music from Dawn of the Dead, before going into a fantastic opening credits segment. Watch it, now!
