Film 171/365, Day 176/365 – The Tourist

A bit predictable but oddly compelling.  Everyone looks good, which isn’t difficult when Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are your stars, the story is quite good but like I said predictable but for what ever reason you can’t help but wait for it to all play out.  Good fun but that’s about it.

Synopsis:  Frank, a maths teacher from Wisconsin, is on his way to Venice when a mysterious woman sits opposite him and before he knows what's happening he is staying in her hotel, being chased by Russian gangsters and Interpol who all believe he is someone else.  Will Frank be able to convince everyone who he is?

Film 57/365, Day 61/365 – Hot Fuzz

Police Officer Nicholas Angel is the best officer in the whole of the London Metropolitan Police Service. The only problem is that he’s too good and to stop him from showing up the rest of the service he is relocated to Sandford, Gloustershire. Sandford is a sleeper rural village with almost zero crime... or is that what they want you to think? 

Hot Fuzz is another fantastic film from Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg and has all you would expect from them. Visually Hot Fuzz is exceptional, the editing alone would be an example for any would be film makers out there. The story is excellent, packed full of dry comedy that made Sean of the Dead such a success. Hot Fuzz should not be missed.

Film 9/365, Day 6/365 – Flash Gordon

The Earth is under attack from a mysterious force from outer space. With only days before the Moon crashes into the Earth destroying it completely, Earth’s only hope is the New York Jets quarterback Flash Gordon. Can Flash unit the kingdoms of Mongo to rise up against Ming the Merciless or is the Earth destined for destruction?

Without a doubt Flash Gordon was one of my favourite films as a child and I’m glad to say that the magic has not been lost since then. Admittedly it is cheesy, but it’s supposed to be. The original comic book was made in the 1930s and the film retains the full flavour of the era. I think Flash Gordon can continue to entertain for years, even decades, to come. And everybody knows the theme tune!
