Film 362/365, Day 365/365 – Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith

Easily the best of the three newer Star Wars films and finally something to rival the original trilogy.  This is a dark and sinister tale which ultimately sets up things for the start of the original film, so without spoiling too much a lot of people are not going to make it.  Brilliant.

Synopsis:  The Clone Wars is heading towards a conclusion, however Anakin Skywalker is troubled by visions of Padme dying.  Desperate to stop it he seeks guidance from Senator Palpatine who claims to be able to help him but it will mean using the dark side of the Force.

Film 361/365, Day 364/365 – Star Wars: Attack of the Clones

Much better than the Phantom Menace but still not to the standard of the original three.  There is some excellent action and fantastic fight scenes throughout especially when Yoda steps up which both incredible and oddly funny.

Synopsis:  Many years after the Phantom Menace Anakin Skywalker is now grown up and continuing his training to become a Jedi Knight, he is also having a secret relation with Queen Amidala who is now the senator for Naboo.  The Empire is under considerable strain as the mysterious Count Dooku is leading a group of separatists.

Film 360/365, Day 364/365 – Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Not the best addition to the Star Wars franchise but it's not nearly as bad as some people would make out.  Sure, there are some rubbish characters, Jar Jar Binks, and the better ones were not used nearly enough, Darth Maul.  It has everything you would expect from a Star Wars film, great music and fantastic special effects.

Synopsis:  When the Trade Federation creates a blockade stopping any craft from leaving or going to the peaceful planet of Naboo the Galactic Empire sends two Jedi to resolve the conflict unaware that the Sith, their ancient enemy, has reappeared and are orchestrating things.

Film 359/365, Day 364/365 – National Treasure

Good adventure with plenty of action and suspense.  In my mind this is actually better than the Da Vinci Code purely because it assumes that we can think and allows us to discover the answers with the characters and not just tell us what they are.  Good fun.

Synopsis:  The latest in a long line of treasure hunters attempts to find a treasure so great that the Knights Templar hid it away from the world.  He is not the only one trying to find it so he's going to have to hurry.

Film 358/365, Day 364/365 – License to Drive

Classic eighties comedy.  If like me you grew up in an era when Corey Haim and Corey Feldman were in everything good, then you will love this.  It is by no means an outstanding film but is good fun and great for some nostalgia.  It's going to be a wild and ridiculous night!

Synopsis:  A teenager who is determined to impress his hot date, has taken her out even though he just failed his driving test.  To make matters worse he has borrowed his Grandpa's Cadillac and he has to get it home without a scratch or face the consequences!

30/12/2011

Film 357/365, Day 364/365 – The Grinch

Funny and ideal for the children at Christmas.  It is also worth noting that the Grinch was a fine example of an Environmentalist, he was a keen recycler and advocate of reducing the amount of waste at Christmas.  Jim Carrey is the only person they could have got to be the Grinch and it's amazing how much Taylor Momsen has changed since 2000!

Synopsis:  The Whos are busy preparing for Christmas when some children encounter the Grinch.  The Grinch hates Christmas and when one little girl attempts to include him things quickly back fire and he becomes more determined to ruin Christmas than ever before.

Film 356/365, Day 363/365 – Road Trip

Brilliant, this is what College should be all about, sure you might learn some stuff but ultimately it is about having a good time and gaining some awesome life experience.  This is a very simple concept, so simple that another film came out at the same time with pretty much the same story, Overnight Delivery.  It is however a very funny film with lots of fairly outrageous gags.

Synopsis:  After a wild night Josh sleeps with Beth and videotapes it!  Then the next morning he wakes to discover that his room mate has accidentally mailed the tape to Josh's girlfriend, thinking it was something else.  Desperate to retrieve the tape Josh and his friends go on a 1800 mile road trip to try and recover the tape.

Film 355/365, Day 363/365 – Shrek

It's like an onion... it has layers.  On the top Shrek is a very funny film which attempts to break ever rule that has been established through centuries of fairy tales.  The story does actually have some sound moral guidance, but then it also very funny.  If you like animated films then you've probably already seen it, otherwise... go see it.

Synopsis:  An ogre discovers that a king has banished all mystical creatures to his swamp.  Desperate to return his home back to what it was he goes to see the king and agrees to complete a mission so that he will get his swamp back.  So, accompanied by a talking donkey, Shrek sets out to rescue princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a dragon.

Film 354/365, Day 363/365 – Little Shop of Horrors

Good old fashioned fun.  There are some good songs and some exceptional characters, most notably Steve Martin as the dentist who is hilarious.  Not a bad film, but not one that I would go out of my way to watch.  If it's on and I haven't seen it in a while then sure, why not.

Synopsis:  A florist discovers a strange planet in the shop he works in.  Soon he discovers that the plant needs blood to survive and it can talk.  It is willing to help him to become famous in exchange for food, lots and lots of food!

29/12/2011

Film 353/365, Day 362/365 – Stand By Me

Classic children’s adventure.  The best thing about Stand By Me is that the children are not the sort of children that fill the roles nowadays, they are more real and not sickly and annoying.  It is also based on a Novella by Stephen King and whilst it’s not the normal stuff you would expect from him it is very good.

Synopsis:  Four school friends learn of the whereabouts of a dead teenager’s body and set out on an adventure to find it and bring it back so that they will be recognised as heroes.  It’s a long way there and it will push their friendship to the edge and back again.

28/12/2011

Film 352/365, Day 361/365 – The King’s Speech

Anyone that knows me probably wouldn’t describe me as a monarchist, that said however this is actually a very good film with an interesting story and some good characters.  For me Geoffrey Rush stole the show as the speech therapist.  There are some very funny moments most notably the swearing!

Synopsis:  This tells the story of the King George VI who suffered from a stammer which made addressing the public very difficult.  He had never intended to become king but when his brother abdicated the throne so that he could marry a twice divorced American he was the next in line.  To overcome his problem he seeks the help of an unorthodox therapist.

Film 351/365, Day 361/365 – The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear

Brilliantly stupid and fantastically hilarious.  Leslie Nielsen is excellent as bumbling cop Frank Drebin who delivers countless fantastic lines in his incredible deadpan way.  The script is fantastic and packed with some of the best lines in comedy.  Excellent.

Synopsis:  Lieutenant Frank Drebin returns for another zany mission.  This time he has to stop a sinister plot to influence the future of energy production in the United States of America.

Film 350/365, Day 361/365 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

Much better than the first part, but still not quite to the level I was expecting from the hype.  The script was very much to the same standards as the previous films and at times seemed unsure of where they were going, how many horcruxes that had or hadn’t found/destroyed.  The final battle was epic but again failed to live up to expectations.

Synopsis:  Harry, Ron and Hermione have only a few horcuxes left to find, but they also need to avoid Voldemort who is even more determined to catch them than ever before.  To complete their tasks they will need to return to Hogwarts and face Voldemort in the final show down.

27/12/2011

Film 349/365, Day 360/365 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1

The thing that makes Harry Potter special is the world in which it takes place.  Well for the most part this film does not take place in that world, instead it’s just various areas around the United Kingdom.  The characters seem to spend too much time just aimlessly moving around without any sort of direction or purpose, plus the horcrux seems to be a rip off of the One Ring.

Synopsis:  Voldemort has taken control of the Ministry of Magic and has started a campaign to remove all muggles.  Harry, Ron and Hermione have gone on the run to attempt to find a way to defeat Voldemort.  All they have to go on is a number of items left to them by the late Dumbledore.

Film 348/365, Day 360/365 – Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Much darker than the previous films.  The story itself is very good and only finally reveals the answers at the end, although not all of the answers.  It has some elements that remind me of the Lord of the Rings in the style it’s filmed which is not a bad thing.  At times however the script still seems to be full of little unnecessary bits of dialog.  Altogether better than the previous film.

Synopsis:  With Voldemort finally revealed Hogwarts is turned into a fortress to protect Harry and the other children.  A new teacher of potions is brought into the school because Dumbledore believes he holds the secrets on how to defeat Voldemort.  Harry discovers a book that once belonged to the Half Blood Prince which contains lots of powerful spells and potions.

Film 347/365, Day 360/365 – Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Pretty standard Harry Potter this one.  It’s a good fit to the series without really being great.  The visuals are very good and the action is ok.  Sometimes the script seems a little forced or juvenile but then it is aimed at children.

Synopsis:  The Ministry of Magic refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned and instead is determined to see that Harry Potter and Dumbledore and to do so they send Dolores Umbridge to watch over Hogwarts.  Soon she has taken full control and Dumbledore is on the run.  Can they get Voldemort to reveal himself?

Film 346/365, Day 358/365 – Captain America: The First Avenger

Good action, plenty of cheese and an average story line.  Not since the first Spiderman film have we had a comic book superhero film with a complete story.  All of them appear to be building up to something else, which is fine, but I would like to see a complete story in one sitting every once and a while.

Synopsis:  Steve Rogers is so desperate to serve his country in the Second World War that he agrees to take part in an experimental procedure to become the first super soldier.  The Hydra organisation are determined to make sure that it doesn’t happen.

Film 345/365, Day 358/365 – Megamind

A heart warming hilarious story.  Megamind is a fantastic character with his mispronunciation of words and unsuccessful attempts to be evil.  If you like Despicable Me then this will be right up your street.  Will Ferrell is excellent as the voice of Megamind.  Great fun.

Synopsis:  Megamind, a devious supervillain, finally destroys his nemesis Metroman but finds life without him to be unfulfilling and ultimately pointless.  Determined to rediscover his purpose he creates a superhero to do battle with.  Unfortunately the superhero turns out to be more of a supervillain than Megamind.

23/12/2011

Film 344/365, Day 356/365 – Office Space

Brilliant, we’d all do it if we could.  Anyone that has worked in an office will find at least one thing to relate to in this film and most likely several more.  Milton is a fantastic character and Gary Cole is also brilliant as the apathetic boss.  Hilarious!

Synopsis:  Peter Gibbons doesn’t really enjoy his life and when his soon to be ex-girlfriend takes him to see a hypnotherapist things don’t get any better.  Once is a relaxed state the hypnotherapist has a heart attack and is unable to stir Peter from his state and goes about the rest of his life without a care.

22/12/2011

Film 343/365, Day 355/365 – Moon

I love absolutely everything about this film.  It is a fantastic concept that is delivered exceptionally well.  It keeps you guessing and doesn’t reveal everything too soon but when it does reveal everything it does it in a suitable manner.  The atmosphere throughout is excellent and Sam Rockwell is amazing.  Fantastic science fiction.

Synopsis:  Sam works on the Moon.  He is the only man there operating a mining station to aid the Earth with its power needs.  Then he has an accident and strange things start to happen to him.

21/12/2011

Film 342/365, Day 354/365 – Groundhog Day

Excellent comedy from one of the masters, Bill Murray.  The concept is fantastic and watching Bill Murray’s attitude towards his predicament change from anger, to joy, to working out what he can get away with and then when he’s had enough and desperately tries to break out of the cycle.  Just brilliant.

Synopsis:  Phil, a weather man, is sent to cover Groundhog Day where a groundhog comes out of hibernation and predicts whether the winter will continue.  Phil was glad when the day was finally over only to wake up in the morning to find himself back at the start of yesterday and it keeps happening again and again and again!

20/12/2011

Film 341/365, Day 353/365 – The Fast and the Furious

Explosive heart racing action.  This is by no means the best film ever but it is none stop action that leaves your heart pounding, it is just one non-stop rollercoaster.  That said you should definitely not get in a car after watching it’s almost too tempting!  Fantastic action in a great film that you can watch over and over again.  I love it!

Synopsis:  Large quantities of merchandise are being stolen whilst the trucks are on the roads and it’s getting too much for the FBI to ignore.  They believe that it is the work of a street gang who take part in illegal drag races so they are sending an agent undercover to see if he can confirm their suspicions.

Film 340/365, Day 353/365 – Team America: World Police

Hi-lar-ious!  The guys behind South Park have delivered another exceptionally funny film complete with their usual brand of songs.  They somehow know exactly when to be vulgar and when to be clever and so far I have not seen anything they’ve done that I haven’t found funny.  The puppet love scene and when Gary is being sick are two of my highlights but I could probably list another thirty!

Synopsis:  Gary Johnston, noted Broadway actor, is recruited by the top world counter terrorism unit - Team America.  He has been brought in to help them find out who stole a nuclear weapon.  Everything is going well until Gary begins to doubt his abilities, but can the team function without an actor?

19/12/2011

Film 339/365, Day 352/365 – Burlesque

Slick, sexy and funny, which ironically is exactly what you’d expect from a Burlesque show.  The story is nothing new, it’s been done a million times in a million different ways, but with this one it centres around sexy girls dancing and singing in lingerie... and who doesn’t like that?  My biggest criticism is the underuse of Alan Cumming who is hilarious and deserved more screen time.

Synopsis:  Small town girl Ali has dreams of being a star but isn’t getting anywhere so she decides to go to Los Angeles and make her dreams come true.  After stumbling across a Burlesque club she decides that that is what she wants to do and goes about making it happen.

Film 338/365, Day 352/365 – The ‘Burbs

Classic Tom Hanks.  This is a very funny film with a collection of weird and wonderful characters.  If you like Tom Hanks and haven’t seen any of his earlier work then this is a great place to start, then after this you should watch the Bachelor Party and Dragnet.

Synopsis:  When one of their neighbours disappears and is quickly replaced by a new and incredibly odd family the residents of a quiet suburban neighbourhood can’t help but think something is wrong.  But then maybe the monotony of the suburbs is getting to them!

18/12/2011

Film 337/365, Day 351/365 – Desperado

Insanely brilliant.  Robert Rodriguez delivers an insane ultra violent tale of revenge.  There are countless excellent gun fights throughout although the story is a bit basic, but then who cares.  Antonio Banderas is cool and incredibly slick as El Mariachi and Salma Hayek is smoking hot!

Synopsis:  A Mariachi player goes on the warpath with a local drug lord who killed his girlfriend and shot him in the hand ending his days as a Mariachi.

Film 336/365, Day 351/365 – Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Forty percent romance to sixty percent comedy, which is almost the ideal mix for me... almost.  This film has a number of very funny moments and plenty of moments that are more than uncomfortable.  However this is also the film that brought us Aldous Snow who went on to have his own film, Get Him to the Greek, which was brilliant.

Synopsis:  Dumped by his long time girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, Peter decides to go to Hawaii to forget all about her and try to get his life moving again.  But in a cruel twist of fate Sarah is staying at the same hotel with her new boyfriend, an outrageous British rocker.

17/12/2011

Film 335/365, Day 350/365 – Minority Report

Great science fiction which is actually quite believable.  This is more than just a great science fiction film but this is actually a very good film with some great action scenes and a very compelling story as well.  And would you believe it, it’s yet another film based on a Philip K. Dick story.

Synopsis:  In the not too distant future crime has been completely eradicated in Washington DC thanks to a new pre-crime unit that catches criminal before they have committed the crime.  They use three pre-cogs, gifted humans who are able to see the future, to identify the crimes.  But when the lead officer in the pre-crime division is identified as a future criminal he goes on the run desperate to clear his name.

16/12/2011

Film 334/365, Day 349/365 – Devil

Simple story, well executed.  Devil has a good amount of suspense although it is a long way off M. Night Shyamalan’s early work, notably The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.  If you did like this then I would definitely recommend Cube which is actually much better.

Synopsis:  Five strangers get trapped in a lift but one of them is not who they say they are!  It was no coincidence that they all got in the same lift they were gathered so that the Devil can toy with them before collecting their souls!

Film 333/365, Day 349/365 – Franklyn

Dark, arty and a little slow.  The story is ok but doesn’t do enough to make up for the first thirty minutes where you are desperately trying to work out just what is going on.  The ending finally managed to pull the story together a bit more but not quite enough to get it more than two stars.

Synopsis:  Three dark and tragic stories that are more interwoven than they may seem.  A man ditched at the altar, an artist whose work centres around suicide and a man desperate to avenge a death he was unable to prevent.

15/12/2011

Film 332/365, Day 348/365 – Vamp

Classic ‘80s comedy horror.  Grace Jones, whilst not having the sex appeal of Salma Hayek in From Dusk till Dawn as the head stripper/vampire, cannot ever be accused of not committing to the role, she is insanely brilliant or brilliantly insane, either one is fine.  This not the greatest film but is a fine of example of the sort of films that were being pushed in the ‘80s.

Synopsis:  Two college kids are tasked with getting a stripper for a party.  Desperate to impress they head to a strip club to hire a stripper.  Unfortunately for them the club is run by vampires.

14/12/2011

Film 331/365, Day 347/365 – Naked Weapon

Lots of over choreographed fight scenes which use camera tricks and wires to hide any real martial arts skills.  Basically, do you like good looking women who kick ass but only after relying on their sex appeal to get close to their targets?  If not, move along there because there is not a lot else going on here!

Synopsis:  Forty twelve to thirteen year old girls are kidnapped and taken to an isolated island and trained as assassins for six years.  It’s kill or be killed for these girls as they have to quickly decide whether to fall in line or not.

13/12/2011

Film 330/365, Day 346/365 – Tekken

Quality fights and action in the film based on the best selling beat’em up game of the same name.  The story isn’t great, but the criticism I would put down is that this film didn’t really need a story line. We can accept it is a martial arts tournament, just show us the fights, lots and lots of quality fights and we will be happy... oh and Kelly Overton!!!

Synopsis:  The world has crumbled and governments have been replaced with corporations.  Tekken, the largest and most powerful of the corporations, run a martial arts tournament every year where champions of each of the other corporations fight to decide who is the strongest.

Film 329/365, Day 346/365 – GoldenEye

It will never be as good as the Nintendo 64 game!  As far as Bond films go it’s pretty good but it is still in the old style full of clichĆ©s and A-Team style action.  Bond actually drives a tank over two police cars and after he drives off the people climb out of the wrecks.  It is also incredibly cheesy which is what I grew up knowing Bond as, but now that I’ve seen what it can be in the new films then this feels much more like an action Carry On film.

Synopsis:  The Goldeneye is a Russian space weapon that it has fallen under control of a secret terrorist organisation.  James Bond must work together with the only survivor of a Russian research facility to try and track down the terrorists and stop them from causing chaos.

12/12/2011

Film 328/365, Day 345/365 – Scrooged

Brilliantly funny.  Bill Murray is excellent as always and probably slightly better as a character before the ghosts change his view on life but oh well, it wouldn’t be Christmas if he stayed mean would it!  One of my favourite Christmas films as it gets you in the mood for Christmas without being too sappy!

Synopsis:  Desperate to reign in the Christmas TV ratings a selfish TV executive is prepared to step on anyone and anything.  That is until he is visited by his deceased former boss who warns him that he is destined for misery unless he changes his way.  Also he shall be visited by three spirits who will show him the errors of his ways.

Film 327/365, Day 345/365 – Time Bandits

Surreal fantasy adventure with dark humour from the minds of Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam.  This is quite unlike anything that gets made now which is a real shame because this is a very entertaining film.  It is however quite likely to split opinions, much like Monty Python, you either get it or you don’t.

Synopsis:  A young boy gets caught up with a group of time travelling dwarves who are determined to steal treasure throughout history.  They are using a map they stole from their employer, the Supreme Being, to navigate through time.  Evil however also would like to get its hands on the map!

11/12/2011

Film 326/365, Day 344/365 – X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The X-Men are good but not so much without Wolverine, however Wolverine without the X-Men is still awesome.  There is plenty of action and story is interesting although there is so much back story with Wolverine that it is hard to squeeze it all into one film.  Basically, what I’m saying is give us more Wolverine and not James McAvoy as Professor X!

Synopsis:  After years of fighting other peoples fights Wolverine leaves to go and live a normal life.  Everything is going well until his girlfriend is killed by his estranged brother Sabre Tooth.  To avenge his girlfriend’s death he agrees to enter into the Weapon X program and have an indestructible metal fused to his skeleton.

Film 325/365, Day 344/365 – It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie

It’s impossible not to get caught up with the Muppets.  This isn’t their best movie but is still entertaining with plenty of laughs, most notably in the night club in the alternative world with a beefed up Beaker!  Will have to try and go see the new movie when it comes out, 10th February 2012 in the UK.

Synopsis:  The Muppet theatre is under threat from a nasty banker who wishes to knock it down and put a high priced night club in its place.  The Muppets have until midnight on Christmas Eve to get the money to pay the rent or so they think!

09/12/2011

Film 324/365, Day 342/365 – Next

Surprisingly good.  I came into this film not really expecting much but am happy to say I was quite pleasantly surprised.  It is a good action film with an interesting science fiction element which is used very well.  This is also yet another film based on a Philip K. Dick story, surprising how many there are out there that don’t go out of their way to tell you that.

Synopsis:  A Las Vegas magician who possesses the gift of foresight, which enables him to see the next two minutes before they happen, is wanted by the FBI to help them terrorists from detonating a nuclear weapon in Los Angeles.  At first he is reluctant but the terrorists also want to get him so that he can’t help the FBI.

08/12/2011

Film 323/365, Day 341/365 – Stake Land

A fantastically dark and compelling story.  I don’t know why I love a good post apocalyptic film, but I just do, and this is an exceptional one.  For me it is up there with the Road.  It is a brilliant story that is fantastically told.  Why is there always some religious nuts trying to ruin the apocalypse for everyone?  It’s not enough that you have to fight off vampires or zombies but these idiots always pop up and make things that much more difficult.  Brilliant!

Synopsis:  The world has gone to hell following the vampire outbreak.  Martin looked certain to follow until a vampire hunter known only as Mister saved him and took him under his wing.  They are trying to make it to Canada but they are not only at threat from the vampires, a religious cult called the Brotherhood is also after them.

07/12/2011

Film 322/365, Day 340/365 – The Blackout

I wish there had been a blackout and then maybe my internet would have gone down and I wouldn’t have been able to finish watching this awful film!  The story had potential but within the first ten minutes through an incredible mix of terrible acting and bad story delivery I just wanted them all to die!

Synopsis:  On Christmas Eve in Los Angeles there are a number of unexplained power outages and earth tremors.  Soon one tower block is plunged into darkness and then something starts to attack the residents.  They will need to band together to stand and chance of getting out.

Film 321/365, Day 340/365 – Get Smart

Very silly and very funny.  Steve Carell is simply excellent as Maxwell Smart and whilst this is a very silly film it is also very funny.  There are plenty of gags and slapstick humour all the way through.  The story is quite good without being brilliant.  Dwayne Johnson and Anne Hathaway are also good.

Synopsis:  Maxwell Smart dreams of only one thing, becoming a secret agent but he is not going to get his break because he is the best analyst the secret services have ever had.  That is until someone breaks into the headquarters and all of the agents are suspected of being a double agent so Maxwell is made up to agent status to find out who did it.

06/12/2011

Film 320/365, Day 339/365 – Broken Arrow

BOOM, BOOM and BOOM!  John Woo pulls out all the stops in Broken Arrow as he blows up everything he can think of including a Stealth Bomber, two helicopters, a nuclear warhead, a train and countless cars and trucks.  The story is fairly simple but it is non-stop explosive action which more than makes up for it.

Synopsis:  A rogue pilot double crosses his co-pilot and steals nuclear weapons whilst destroying an experimental stealth plane.  Aware that the rogue pilot intends to use the weapons in acts of terrorism, the co-pilot with the help of a park ranger is determined to stop him.

05/12/2011

Film 319/365, Day 338/365 – X-Men: The Last Stand

Too many characters and not enough substance.  This is definitely the worst of the three X-Men films, the story is nowhere near as strong as the previous two.  It would appear that what happened to the third Austin Powers film has happened here, where they have tried to accommodate everyone that wanted to be involved at the expense of the story.

Synopsis:  A cure for mutations has been developed and the government are looking to eradicate mutations and Magneto is determined not to allow that to happen.  Also Jean Grey has returned from the dead and isn’t acting like herself.

04/12/2011

Film 318/365, Day 338/365 – Mimic

Lots of suspense and terror from Guillermo del Toro.  This is a very good thriller that will have you on the edge of your seats.  The pace of the film is fairly steady until the second half where it just seems to get faster and faster as the insects are frantically hunting Mira Sorvino.

Synopsis:  Three years ago a scientist released a genetically enhanced insect to kill off a variety of cockroach that was carrying a virulent disease.  The insect was so successful that is quickly ran out of its prey and in a bid to survive they adapted to hunt a new prey... man!

Film 317/365, Day 337/365 – 28 Weeks Later

Fantastic action, suspense and tension.  The infected are back and they is a real danger of them going global.  Whilst they are not what some would consider the traditional zombies they are the most likely zombie scenario!  Robert Carlyle makes an excellent zombie, great fun.

Synopsis:  28 weeks since the outbreak decimated the population of Great Britain and the infected have long since died and what’s remaining of the Brits are being returned to their homes.  Then when a survivor is discovered that seems to be infected but doesn’t show any of the symptoms there is a chance of the outbreak reoccurring.

03/12/2011

Film 316/365, Day 336/365 – Mr Nice

A fantastic story thanks to the incredible mix of characters Howard Marks meets.  It is very well filmed and uses quite a lot of archived video footage to really give it an authentic feel.  It truly is a remarkable story with lots of highs and lows.

Synopsis:  This is the story of notorious drug smuggler Howard Marks from his early days at Oxford University to his connections with the IRA, CIA, MI6 and the Mafia.

02/12/2011

Film 315/365, Day 335/365 – Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

Dark and mysterious with a wicked sense of humour.  This Finnish made film is an excellent change to the usual Christmas films.  There is a sense of wonder, dread and discovery all the way through the film which keeps you involved and it has a fantastic ending which makes this well worth watching. This is now officially one of my favourite Christmas films.

Synopsis:  Far north in the wilderness of Finland a crew is digging deep into a mountain to find something that has been buried there for centuries, the original Santa Claus.  The thing is that the original is nothing like the Coca Cola version.  He knows if you’ve been naughty and he punishes you accordingly!

Film 314/365, Day 335/365 – Titan A.E.

Fantastic animation, an excellent soundtrack and very good story.  The animation is an excellent mix of computer generated and traditional animation.  The story is fascinating although didn’t quite make full use of its potential but was still very entertaining.  The real star of this show is the mix of animation and music which makes for some excellent scenes.

Synopsis:  The Earth has been destroyed by an alien race leaving what is left of humanity scattered across the universe without a home.  There is however one last hope for humanity a mysterious spaceship, The Titan, that has been hidden somewhere in the galaxy and one person holds the key to finding it.
